Introduction to Performance Assessment
Each year the Authority is assessed on how delivers its services to the community in Kent & Medway. The assessments focus on these areas:
Direction of Travel measures how much the Authority has improved in the previous year, and how it will continue to improve in the future.
Use of Resources measures how well the Authority manages and uses its financial resources.
We were exempt from the national service assessment process, which looks at how we deliver our service to the community, as a result of achieving excellent in the Comprehensive Performance Assessment in 2005. However, we have undertaken our own assessment and have used this to help us plan where we want to make improvements.
Performance Assessment 2007
We have now received the results for 2007. We are delighted to announce that the Authority has been rated as improving strongly for its direction of travel assessment. Coupled with our improving well outcome in 2006, and our excellent status under Comprehensive Performance Assessment in 2005, we are the best fire and rescue authority in the country. For our use of resources assessment, we achieved the maximum score of four.
There remains much which we want to do to make our fire-fighters the best equipped, the best trained and the safest in the country. This result is an excellent platform from which the Authority can continue to improve in the future.
