Introduction to Chapter
We are committed to equality of opportunity for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) people across services and employment. We respect the rights of individuals to be open about their sexual orientation, challenge stereotyping and improve knowledge about LGB communities, both internally and to the community as a whole.
We work with many different members of our community to help them prevent emergencies and to deal more effectively with situations when they happen. Our community Fire safety team is an active presence at local Gay Pride events.
We recognise that many LGB people have experienced discrimination by other employers and that they may also have been subject to harassment at work. As a “gay friendly” employer we have been working with Stonewall on ways we can support our LGB staff, whether or not they are “out”, and on how we can encourage more job applications from gay men, lesbians and bisexual people.
