Keep Your Family Safe

Child Fire Setters Fire Safety Advice to Parents/Guardians
  • Keep all matches out of reach of children, lock matches away if necessary.
  • Children may hide matches in pockets etc.
  • You should search the child's school bag, satchel, etc.
  • Thoroughly examine the child's bedroom (they hide matches under mattresses, carpets, in wardrobes, drawers etc.)
  • Only allow the child access to the communal rooms and their bedroom with supervision. Lock other rooms if necessary.
  • The house needs to be fitted with smoke alarms; these should be located in all rooms where children are likely to be (especially bedrooms). If required, buy new alarms promptly and make sure alarms are fitted properly and are working correctly.
  • Provide a fixed fireguard to any open fires.
  • Secure your outside buildings like garden sheds and garages, to prevent children getting in. Try to keep the home free from rubbish and keep the outside of your property tidy.
By taking these simple steps you can help prevent your child from playing with fire
