More than 40 firefighters are currently tackling a major blaze in a row of eight terraced houses in Margate.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Grosvenor Place just after 2 o’clock this morning where they found a house in the centre of the terrace well alight.
Eight fire engines from across East Kent, a height vehicle and other specialist vehicles are currently fighting the fire, alongside Kent Police officers who are managing traffic in the area.
Firefighters have successfully prevented the fire from tearing through the row ofterraces, however nearby residents have been evacuated from the scene.
No-one was trapped and no-one has been hurt in the incident, but Red Cross Victim Support Unit - a voluntary resource that provides much needed assistance to those affected by fire – volunteers have taken 14 residents to a nearby welfare centre for shelter and refreshment.
The fire has resulted in partial structural collapse in the property in which the blaze started. Four other buildings in the terrace have been damaged by fire and smoke.
Crews continue to fight the fire using jets, hose reel jets and hydrants.
It is too early to determine the cause of the fire.
