KFRS shows off its flower power
For the first time ever Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is opening its garden at its Tovil-based headquarters to the public.
Supporting the National Garden scheme, the event, held this month, will raise money for major charities including Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care, as well Maidstone- based charity the Dandelion Trust for Children.
KFRS Assistant Director Judith Higgins said: “The garden was planned and started several years before the house was built in 1895, and some of the original planting still survives. In 2005/06 a three-year replanting scheme began which was designed to encourage wildlife, along with other features like bat-boxes. While we can’t restore the garden as it originally was, we have tried hard to respect and build on the intentions of its creators, keeping it growing as a living project.”
The open days are Saturday 19 and 26 July from 1-5pm. Admission is £3 but is free to children, and teas will be available. KFRS’s museum will also be open, with some historic vehicles on display. Log onto
