Channel Tunnel update 5

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is continuing to tackle a blaze at the Channel Tunnel.

Around 100 firefighters and over 20 appliances are still at the site working with their French counterparts who are leading on this incident.

Control room operators first received a call to reports of an incident at the site at 2:57pm on Thursday afternoon.

A number of passengers were evacuated on an HGV train, all persons were accounted for although a small number of people have been treated for smoke inhalation.

Due to the incident, the Channel Tunnel service is temporarily suspended. Eurotunnel advise that if you are travelling and require further information within the next 12 hours, please call Eurotunnel’s customer information line on 08000 969 992.

There will be no further updates until 8am.
