Crews tackle warehouse blaze
An investigation in to the cause of a serious fire that badly damaged a warehouse in Gravesend has been launched by Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) Fire Investigators and Kent Police Crime Scene Investigators.
Fire crews were called to Denton Wharf, Mark Lane in Gravesend yesterday (4th June) evening just after 11.30pm following reports of a fire in a warehouse storing paper.
Once at the scene crews were confronted with a well developed fire in a large single storey building and immediately called for support from surrounding stations in the North Kent area.
At the fire’s height eight appliances, a height vehicle, specialist coordinating vehicles and over 60 firefighting staff were at the scene.
Crews battled the fire throughout the course of this morning using a variety of equipment including jets, monitor jets and hydrants, with the height vehicle being used as a water tower, pumping water from the nearby river over the top of the fire.
At 8.44am this morning crews extinguished the fire and resources at the scene have been scaled down to three appliances. Firefighters are now salvaging the remains of the blaze and are assisting investigators with the evidence gathering process.
The initial eight appliances sent at to the scene were from Dartford, Horton Kirby, Medway, Rainham, Swanscombe and Thames-side.
