Major fire in Swanscombe

More than 50 firefighters have spent the night tackling a blaze at the Manor Way Business Park in Swanscombe.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a unit at Manor Way at 12.54am where they found a large quantity of baled paper, a car and a lorry unit well alight.

At the height of the fire, eight appliances and a water unit were used at the scene. Two crews were each sent from Thames-side and Dartford while one appliance was sent from Swanscombe, Cliffe, Horton Kirby and Swanley.

The incident was scaled down to three appliances at 4am this morning and firefighters are continuing to damp down at the site which measures 30 metres square.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze will be carried out once firefighting operations have been completed.
