Year One - Completed Assessments

Maternity/ Adoption and Paternity Scheme:
The Maternity/ Adoption and Paternity scheme form part of the HR bundle of policies and procedures that support organisations aim to provide fair and equitable family friendly conditions of employment for all staff.
The statutory changes introduced from April 2007 and the future changes proposed for April 2008/09 provided the opportunity to work in partnership with representatives to revise our current schemes. These schemes will provide support for working parents and help to attract and retain the staff the organisation needs to continue its success and provide an effective and efficient service.

Disability Procedures:
One in five people in the UK have a disability. Therefore, it is not only the right thing to do but also good business sense to make adjustments to jobs and equipment so that more disabled people can work for us. This gives us a tremendous opportunity to tap into the talents and skills of people who may otherwise have been lost to Kent Fire and Rescue Service. It also means that we can retain our investment in the knowledge and capabilities of valued and experienced staff.
We have introduced clearly defined disability procedures for retention and redeployment. When staff declare that they consider themselves to have disability we work with them to make the best adjustments to their working arrangements or working environment. In doing so we utilise the expertise and support of specialist agencies. We adopt a similar approach with job applicants to ensure that adjustments are made in the recruitment process to meet their needs.
This document gives an executive summary of our people impact assessment of these procedures.
