Question
Where can I find more information about the resources committed by Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority to staff performing union duties?
Answer
The Authority recognises four unions, which are The Fire Brigades’ Union (FBU), Unison, Unite, and The Fire Officers’ Association.

The FBU currently has nine health and safety representatives and 22 elected representatives performing various union roles. A number of these representatives perform both these roles. Because these roles are performed as part of a day-to-day role, it is not possible to calculate a ‘full-time equivalent’ for this activity.

We have one Unite and one Unison representative. Both representatives accommodate this activity as part of their day-to-day role.

The FBU has one full-time representative performing the role of Brigade Secretary, at an approximate cost for 2017/18 of £58,463. All other representatives would devote significantly less than 50 per cent of their time to union duties.
