Council Tax

Each year we produce information which gives a summary of our recent performance along with details of how we intend to improve services.

Up to and including 2012/13, Council Tax information was produced on this website and also in the form of a Council Tax booklet, which was distributed to all homes across the county.  From 2013/14 this information will only be made available on this website.

Statement of Accounts

The Statement of Accounts are approved by the General Purposes Committee (previously the Audit and Governance Committee) each year. The 2012/13 Statement of Accounts were approved at the General Purposes Committee on 27th June 2013 with an audit opinion signed on 9th July 2013. The audit for 2012/13 was formally concluded on 10 October 2013.

In 2010/11 the  Accounts and Audit (England) Regulations 2011 changed the format of the Governance Statement and for the first time required the new document called ‘Governance Assurance Statement’, to be approved separately to the Statement of Accounts and not included within it.  The annually approved Statement of Accounts and the new Governance Assurance Statements are detailed below.

Medium Term Financial Plan

We are committed to providing services that meet the needs of all users in Kent and Medway, whilst delivering value for money to the tax payer. Our approach to budgeting is sustainable and business led, and is detailed in a document called the Medium Term Financial Plan (MTFP). This document previously covered a three year period, however from 2014/15 we have moved to a five year plan which underpins the Safety Plan and provides an update on the work of the service and our future plans

External Audit Information

Annual Governance Report

With effect from September 2012 Grant Thornton were appointed as the Authority’s new External Auditors, previously this function had been undertaken by the Audit Commission.

As part of their annual review the External Auditors, comment on the audit of the Statement of Accounts, the systems of control that are in place alongside the Authority's arrangements for securing economy, efficiency and effectiveness in the use its resources.

The External Auditors latest comments can be found within the Annual Audit Letter which is detailed below.

Annual Audit Letter

Each year the External Auditors also undertake an audit of the financial standing of Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority. Under the Audit Commission's Code of Audit Practice, they are required to issue an Annual Audit letter to the Authority, once the annual review is complete.

The most recent audit letter which was issued on 10 October 2013 is detailed below.

Monthly spend reports

New government guidance requires Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority to publish montly reports on spending on goods and services over £250.
