Play safely!
It's great to be play games and have fun with
friends.
But as all firefighters know, there are dangers too. The
good news is that it's easy to stay safe.
Always remember...
- Never play with fire, matches or lighters.
- Be very careful around lakes, rivers and the sea - they can be
deeper and more dangerous than you think.
- Stay away from barbecues - they are extremely hot and should be
looked after at all times by an adult.
- If you aren't sure if something is safe, always check with an
adult.
Did you know that just three breaths of fire smoke
can knock you unconscious ..?
Before you go to bed, remember to follow Fred’s 8 steps...
- Keys for
front and back doors should be in an easy to reach place.
- Empty all ashtrays in a
metal bin outdoors.
- Electrical items must
be unplugged, including your phone charger (but take your mobile to
bed!)
- Put matches and
lighters away in a safe place.
- Shut all doors.
- Always make sure
candles are out.
- Fires and
heaters must be switched off. Use safety guards on all coal or log
fires.
- Exits
(passageways, stairs and doorways) have to be left clear.
Make sure you and the adults you live with check
your smoke alarms every week!
