Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a barn fire in Malmaynes Hall Road, St Mary Hoo. Six fire engines and a bulk water carrier were sent to the incident.

On arrival crews found a large barn, measuring 80 metres by 80 metres, was well alight. The barn was used to store around 400 tonnes of bailed hay. A small building and a number of skips were also alight due to heat and fire spread.

Kent Police were at the scene to manage traffic around the incident.

Crews tackled the fire through the night using hose reel jets and main jets. One fire engine remains at the scene holding a watching brief to monitor the fire, to make sure it doesn't reignite.

The barn and its contents have been completely destroyed. The cause of the fire isn’t known at this stage. There were no reported injuries.
