Update 6 April: 

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a waste paper lorry alight on Hoath Way, near Junction 4 of the M2 at Gillingham. 

Three fire engines and a bulk water carrier were sent to the scene and crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. The technical rescue team also attended and used a telehandler machine to clear the debris. 

No casualties were reported. 

The advice for people in the area to close their windows and doors is no longer in place. Please share this update with friends and neighbours who might not have access to the internet or social media.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is currently tackling a waste paper lorry fire on Hoath Way near Junction 4 of the M2 at Gillingham. Crews are tackling the blaze in the back of the vehicle involving around 10 tonnes of compacted paper. The fire is creating a lot of smoke and people living nearby are being asked to close their windows and doors during the incident. Colleagues from Kent Police are at the scene managing traffic around the incident. There are no reported injuries.
