Fire crews were called to reports of a vehicle alight on the Kent-bound M26 motorway between junctions 1 and 2a.

Firefighters put out the flames using a high-pressure hose, but unfortunately the vehicle was destroyed by fire. Crews made efforts to prevent environmental damage using specialist equipment to soak up run-off water and leaked fuel and oil from the burned vehicle. There are no reports of any injuries.

The M26 was closed by National Highways traffic officers to protect crews while they worked, while their social media account gave updates to road users to keep them informed of the delay.
