Final update at 7:40pm:

A fire involving a lorry on the M2 coast-bound near to Junction 5 for the A249 Sittingbourne, is now out.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used compressed air foam and hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. 

No injuries have been reported, and the cause is not yet known. 

The M2 remains closed eastbound between J5 & J6. The westbound carriageway has re-opened between J6 & J5, please check for traffic updates before travelling towards the affected area. 

Duty of care has been left with National Highways.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is responding to a lorry fire on the M2 coast-bound near to Junction 5 for the A249 Sittingbourne.

Seven fire engines and a bulk water carrier are in attendance and crews wearing breathing apparatus are using compressed air foam to extinguish the flames. 

Both the coast-bound and London-bound carriageways have been closed while crews work at the scene, and drivers are warned to expect delays.
