Residential care home fire in Canterbury

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire involving a two storey building used as a residential care home in Pilgrims Way, Canterbury. Crews arrived to find a fire in a bedroom on the first floor of the property. A team of six staff helped safely evacuate 13 residents to another building in the complex, and the residents were assessed by paramedics. The residents and staff were also supported by the Kent Fire and Rescue Service Volunteer Response Team and Red Cross Volunteers. Firefighters worked hard to contain the fire to the bedroom using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, a covering jet and a ventilation fan to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire isn't known at this stage and an investigation will take place later today. Duty of care of building was left with manager.
