Firefighters have been called to reports of a kitchen fire in the basement flat of a six-storey property in Clifton Crescent, Folkestone. Upon arrival at the scene, crews wearing breathing apparatus and carrying a high-pressure hose reel jet were quickly deployed into the premises as smoke was issuing from inside.

The search of the building was widened as a further 999 call from elsewhere in the building suggested smoke was affecting other occupants.

Two people found to be suffering heavily from the effects of breathing in smoke were given oxygen therapy by crews before being passed to the care of the ambulance service for transport to hospital. A further two people have also been affected by the smoke, and are being given precautionary checks.

Firefighting operations are ongoing, updates to follow. Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics and hazardous area response teams are also in attendance.
