Incident
Fire in Gillingham electrical cupboard
Incident details
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire in an electrical cupboard in a second floor flat in Pearl Lane, Gillingham at 4.46am.

The occupant had attempted to extinguish the fire and then left the smoke-filled property. When crews arrived minutes later, they found the fire was out and had been isolated when the fuses tripped out.

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera and cut away part of the wall to expose cabling to ensure there was no fire spread and it was completely extinguished. They also carried out checks with neighbouring properties.

The ventilation system within the building was also in operation clearing smoke from the flat.
