Kent Fire and Rescue Service attends a range of incidents including fires, road crashes, flooding, rescues from height, mud or confined spaces. It also supports other agencies including Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service on a regular basis.

Update: Supermarket fire in Folkestone

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is satisfied that the fire is fully extinguished, and duty of care has been handed over to a representative of Morrisons.

Update at 18:30 on 08/11/18: 
 
The incident has been scaled down to two fire engines and one height vehicle, and firefighters are damping down and checking for hotspots. Contractors have been working to demolish sections of the roof. Fire crews are set to be on the scene throughout the night to monitor the situation. Kent Fire and Rescue Service has been working closely with highways partners, and one lane on Cheriton Road is due to open shortly on a traffic light system.

The incident at the Morrisons store in Folkestone has been scaled down to six fire engines and two height vehicles, and advice for residents to keep windows and doors closed has been lifted.

Update at 11:44 on 08/11/18: 
 
Firefighters are making good progress at the Morrisons store fire in Folkestone. The fire has affected three quarters of the building and crews are working to stop it spreading any further. 
 
The smoke plume coming from the incident has reduced considerably, but advice for people living and working nearby to close windows and doors, remains in place. 
 
British Red Cross has been providing support to people evacuated from the store and the Three Hills Sports Park leisure centre, as well as any members of the public affected. Those evacuated from the leisure centre have now been allowed back inside. 
 
Cheriton Road is closed and is set to remain closed for the rest of the day.   
 
KFRS has been informed that the fire started in a deep fat fryer in the store’s café, and a fire investigation will take place.

Update at 09:50 on 08/11/18: 
 
Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s Technical Rescue Team is in attendance and the drone is being launched to assess the incident from above. The roof of the building, which is approximately 80m x 60m in size, has collapsed. 
 
The initial alarm was raised by a member of staff and the store was evacuated immediately. A nearby leisure centre has also been evacuated as a precaution. 
 
The fire is believed to have started in the store’s café, and a fire investigation will take place. There are no reported casualties at this time. 
 
Advice for people living and working in the surrounding area to close windows and doors remains in place. 
 
Partner agencies are working closely together throughout this incident.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is responding to a large fire in a Morrisons store in Cheriton Road, Folkestone. There are currently 12 fire engines, two height vehicles and a command support unit on the scene. 
 
People living and working nearby are advised to close windows and doors due to smoke in the area.
