Incident
Folkestone hotel fire
Incident details
UPDATE: 1pm Two fire engines are still at the scene. At the height of the fire five fire engines and support vehicles were in attendance. The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen area of the hotel and spread through ceiling voids to the first floor.

Officer in Charge, Group Manager Rupert Roberts, said: "Crews used cold cutting fire equipment to attack the fire externally, then the breathing apparatus teams went into the heavily smoke logged building and did an excellent job of preventing the fire spreading to the restaurant area and above the first floor. By midday they were cutting away to expose hot spots."

Approximately seven residents were safely evacuated

UPDATE: 11:25am Firefighters remain at the scene of a hotel fire in Folkestone, crews have worked hard to bring the fire under control and the incident was reduced to three fire engines at 10.39am.

Approximately 30 firefighters are tackling a blaze in a Folkestone hotel this morning. The hotel was safely evacuated and everyone has been accounted for. KFRS's 999 Emergency Control Centre received the first call shortly after 6.30am.

The fire is believed to have started in an electrical room on the ground floor and spread to the first floor. The building has five floors and a basement and crews in breathing apparatus are using three hose reels, two covering jets and hydrants to prevent the fire spreading further.
