Incident
Grass and undergrowth alight in Grain
Incident details
UPDATE: 5pm
Fire crews are damping down at the scene of a fire involving a large area of grass and undergrowth on the Isle of Grain. The incident will shortly be reduced to three fire engines.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is at the scene of a grass and undergrowth fire measuring approximately 2.5 acres in West Lane on the Isle of Grain. Six fire engines are at the scene along with an all terrain vehicle.

Not all emergency situations have road access so firefighters use the ATV's to access the fire. These eight wheeled vehicles can get firefighters and equipment to remote, hard to reach areas such as woods and moorlands that would be impossible for a traditional heavy fire engine to reach. They have the versatility to tackle grassland fires in restricted rural areas.
