News release text
Crews from Whitstable will be heading to the harbour on 13 July to take part in a community day aimed at keeping people safe this summer.

The free event, running from 10:30am until 4pm, will feature displays and demonstrations on issues including preventing outdoor fires, staying safe around water, and the dangers of pouring water onto a chip pan fire.

In keeping with the location crews will also be highlighting safety tips to ensure your barbeque on the beach doesn’t end in disaster, and ways to prevent a beach hut fire breaking out.

The Kent Fire and Rescue Fire Bike team will be on hand to provide guidance on staying safe on the road, while there will also be the opportunity to view vehicles and equipment used by firefighters when attending incidents.

Other emergency services involved in the event include Kent Police, Air Ambulance, and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, who are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Whitstable Lifeboat Station.

Whitstable Crew Manager, Graeme Browning, said: “We’ll be available throughout the day offering advice for all the family, so if you’re in the area come along and pick up some useful summer safety tips in a fun and informal setting.”
