Get FireFit at Canterbury

News release text
An innovative fitness initiative is coming to Canterbury this bank holiday weekend.

On Saturday 30 March, the fire station in Upper Bridge Street will be throwing open it’s doors to members of the public as the FireFit project arrives in the city.

FireFit gives people the opportunity to test out the training equipment used by firefighters to keep in shape. There will also be a chance to test the speed of running out the fire hoses and reeling them in, as well as trying out the breathing apparatus equipment that is used in firefighting and rescue a ‘casualty’.

This free fun event runs from 11am to 3pm, and is open to the whole family. Crews will also be on hand to provide advice on staying safe from fire this spring.

Head of Community Safety, Stuart Skilton, said “FireFit involves firefighters using their role to lead and encourage communities through a variety of sporting and fitness initiatives. With events like this, we hope to inspire an improvement in health and wellbeing in collaboration with local communities and partner organisations.”
