A fun and free family safety day will be taking place on Sunday 7 September in Broadstairs.
Starting at 11am at the KFRS Training Centre on Ramsgate Road, the event will feature displays and demonstrations aimed at helping visitors avoid everyday hazards at home and on the road.
Other agencies involved in the day include:
- Kent Police
- Royal National Lifeboat institution
- National Health Service
- Institute of Advanced Motorists
- British Red Cross
- Community Wardens
- Territorial Army
- B Kool Bike 2 Skool team
Highlighting the dangers of reckless driving will be one main themes of the day, with members of the public being able to walk round the remains of a crashed car and speaking to firefighters about their experiences of dealing with the aftermath of serious road collisions.
There will also be the opportunity to ride the ‘seat belt sledge’, giving a practical demonstration on the need to wear a seatbelt even when driving at low speeds.
Several KFRS operational vehicles will be at the event, and information about fire safety will be available throughout the day.
Margate Watch Manager Nikki Escudier said: “The event will be running until 3pm and is suitable for all the family with plenty of activities throughout the day. I would encourage anyone interested in learning a bit more about staying safe at home and on the road to come along and pick up some potentially life-saving tips.”
