Tonbridge crew to take part in marathon challenge

7 December 2015

Firefighters from Tonbridge are taking part in a marathon challenge fundraiser this Saturday (12 December) alongside staff at Sainsbury’s.

Crews will be taking along a fire engine to Sainsbury’s from 10 am and will be supporting Sainsbury’s staff as they complete a marathon in the fastest time possible.

Crews will then take their turns at running dressed in their fire tunics and will attempt to beat the time set by Sainsbury’s staff.

During the day, fire crews and Kent Fire and Rescue Service volunteers will be offering winter safety tips to shoppers and children will be able to hop aboard the fire engine too.

Tonbridge Crew Manager Martin Westbrook said: "We hope that the public will come along and show their support for us and Sainsbury’s staff and also pick up some life-saving fire safety advice to help keep them and their loved-ones safe and well over the festive season."

A representative from the Firefighter’s charity will also be there on the day, as Sainsbury’s are supporting the charity this year.
