Fun for all the family at Folkestone fire station open day

Visitors to Folkestone fire station annual community open day can expect a fun-filled day with activities for all the family to enjoy.

The event takes place on Saturday 5 August from 11am to 4pm and is entry is free.

Firefighters will be carrying out a range of exciting demonstrations to highlight some of their skills, including live rescues from the fire tower (at approximately 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm) and a line rescue display.

There will be a range of specialist equipment for the public to view and ask questions about, including a height vehicle, a fogging unit, a water safety unit and boat, bulk water unit and a drone.

Visitors will get a chance to find out more about fire safety in the home and the community safety team will be demonstrating the dangers of tackling a cooking oil fire with water. Information will also be available about the free services Kent Fire and Rescue provides to keep vulnerable residents safe and well.

Kids will have plenty of fun activities to enjoy, from sponge throwing, to having a go using a hose reel and Folkestone’s fire engines will be available for the kids to view and climb aboard. There will be face painting and a charity raffle with a range of excellent prizes that have been generously donated by local businesses.

The road safety team will also be there with KFRS's modified car. The team will be chatting to visitors and encouraging people to make their Road Safe Pledges, as well as talking about the importance of wearing seatbelts while travelling and resisting the use of your mobile phone behind the wheel.

Partner agencies including SECAmb, the HART team, Kent Police will also be attending and providing useful information. The Firefighters Charity will also have a fundraising stand.

Refreshments including ice creams, hot food, drinks, tea and coffee will also be available. People will also be able to blend their own smoothies using a smoothie bike.

Folkestone crew manager John Harper said: “We are looking forward to hosting what promises to be a great day out for all the family. There will be plenty to see and do, and people should take away some valuable tips to help keep themselves and their loved-ones safe.”
