Join in the fun at Dover fire station's open day

Come to Dover fire station on Saturday 22 July 2017 - fun for all the family

Dover firefighters will be welcoming the public to the fire station on Saturday 22 July 2017 for a community open day for all the family.

Visitors to the free event, which runs from 11am to 4pm, will get to see exciting displays and live demonstrations and take away some top tips to keep themselves and their loved-ones safe.

There will be a range of equipment on display that Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) uses to deal with a range of emergencies, including fire engines, a height vehicle and the animal rescue unit. The line rescue team from Deal fire station will also be holding a practical demonstration of the capabilities.

Younger visitors will get the chance to climb aboard the fire engine, have a go at squirting a fire hose and other fun activities.

The KFRS community safety team will be carrying out live fire displays throughout the day to highlight the risk of pouring water on hot oil, and providing safety tips, including importance of working smoke alarms. night-time routines and planning your family's escape routes in the event of a fire.

Visitors will also be able to chat to KFRS’s road safety team and find out more about keeping safe on the roads, as a drivers, passengers or pedestrians, and people will be invited to make their Road Safe Pledge – a commitment always wear a seatbelt while travelling and to refrain from using a mobile behind the wheel.

Dover Transport Museum will be bringing a vintage appliance to the station and the Firefighters Charity will have a fundraising stand.

The crew will be joined by the NHS health improvement team and representatives from Dover District Council community safety unit, who will be providing helpful advice and information.

Dover Watch Manger Mark McDonald said: “We are looking forward to welcoming our local communities to the station for what promises to by a fun and informative day. We hope that people will be able to get an insight into what we do and take away some valuable safety advice.”

There will be a charity fundraising cake sale and other refreshments available.
