Emergency services work together on a daily basis to save lives and keep people safe within their communities.

But for the first time, they’re teaming up to launch a recruitment drive highlighting a wide variety of roles across the blue light services.

On Wednesday, 6 June, Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS), Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) will hold a recruitment event at the Road Safety Experience in Marconi Way, Rochester, from 6pm to 9pm.

Anyone interested in finding out about careers in the emergency services is welcome to come along and speak to firefighters, police officers and paramedics about what it’s like to be on the front line, and also find out about wider support roles.

While it’s a drop in event, presentations from each service will take place at 7pm and 8pm, which will provide a more in-depth look at each organisation.

Chris Colgan, Assistant Director for Operational Response at Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We’re pleased to be working with our colleagues at Kent Police and SECAmb to attract the next wave of front line staff to the blue light services.

“We will be highlighting our current on-call firefighter vacancies that are available across the county. This is a paid role which requires someone to live within five minutes of an on-call fire station and they need to be able to respond day and/or night. Anyone interested in finding out more should come along to the recruitment event, and they can look on our website to see the locations for current on-call firefighter vacancies.”

Kent Police Supt Tracey Quiller, HR Innovation Team lead said: “It is a very exciting and fulfilling time to become part of the Kent Police family. We are recruiting police officers as part of the biggest recruitment campaign in Kent Police’s history, seeking an additional 200 constables over the next year.  We are also keen to recruit additional police staff for many roles, including our Force Control Room where staff provide a critical and valuable service by receiving 999 and 101 calls, and ensuring an appropriate response to members of the public who need our help.

“This ‘blue light recruitment’ event is the first of its kind in Kent and we are really looking forward to working with our colleagues from KFRS and SECAmb to deliver an informative and enjoyable evening. Police officers and staff from our Force Control Room will be present throughout the event so you can find out for yourself all you need to know about the different roles available.

“There is a wealth of information on our website with regards to opportunities."

SECAmb Operational Manager for North Kent, Will Bellamy said: “We have a wide range of career opportunities on offer in the ambulance service and currently looking to recruit emergency care support workers which support are more senior clinicians in the work that they do.

“Working for the ambulance service can be hugely rewarding and it is fair to say that no two days are ever the same.

“If you have good communication and listening skills and are committed to delivering compassionate care to your local community, we are really keen to hear from you.  You can find out more about the vacancies that are on offer with our service by visiting nhs jobs.”
