The responsible person

For the purposes of fire safety, a responsible person is any person who has some control over the premises.

For example:

  • the employer
  • site manager
  • owner
  • managing agents

What does it mean to you?

The responsible person has:

  • a duty to maintain fire precautions by taking reasonable steps to reduce the risk from fire and therefore comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • responsibility to ensure a fire risk assessment is carried out.
