Question
How do I stop my smoke alarm beeping?
Answer
Smoke alarms are sensitive to dust so first try to clean the alarm by vacuuming around the vents.

If you have a battery-powered smoke alarm, an intermittent beeping may be a signal that the battery is running out. Try replacing it.

If you have a mains-powered smoke alarm, the responsibility for maintenance is with your landlord, property management company or you, if you are the owner of the property.

To find out if you qualify for replacement smoke alarms, or to get other free home safety advice and services, call 0800 923 7000 (free from most landlines, mobile charges may vary) or email your contact details to home@kent.fire-uk.org
