Feel Safe and Well at home
Kent Fire and Rescue Service provides free safe and well visits to help you reduce the risk of fire in your home and help you stay safe and independent in your home.
Our home safety officers or firefighters can visit your home at a time convenient for you, and together with you will tailor the visit to suit your needs and the type of property you live in. A typical free visit takes around 45 minutes and includes the fitting of free smoke alarms where necessary, as well as vital advice to help you stay safe and well.
We will highlight any risks from fire in your home, give fire prevention tips, advice on night-time routines and help you plan your escape route in the event of a fire.
We can also provide specialist equipment (e.g. fire resistant blankets, deaf alarms etc.) and advice where needed.
As well as fire safety we can help you and your loved ones to stay safe and well in lots of other ways.
For example helping people:
Avoid falls in the home
Live safely with dementia, physical or mental health conditions
Stay safe and well in the winter
Who are becoming frail or getting older.
Who do we visit?
We offer a free visit to anyone aged 70 and over, anyone living with dementia, people with long term health conditions, people with young children, pregnant women and people who smoke and need extra support.
We work with health and social care agencies and together we ensure we can reach the right people in Kent and Medway who need a little support, but also where that extra pair of eyes in the home can mean you living safer for longer in the place you’re most happy and relaxed.
