Business fire safety
The government is committed to regulating only
where necessary and in a way that is more suited to the needs of
modern businesses.
Therefore in October 2006, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety)
Order 2005 (RRO)
was introduced. It replaced over 100 other pieces of fire
safety legislation including the Fire Precaution Act 1971 and Fire
Precaution (Workplace) Regulation 1997 with one simple order.
The business community found that the previous legislation was
fragmented, inconsistent and difficult to understand. They
wanted more control over the fire precautions within their premises
and greater emphasis on fire prevention within commercial
premises. Who better to take control of fire safety matters
within business than the person who has control over the premises –
the responsible person.
