The Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority’s annual statement of accounts for the year ended 31 March 2019 was initially reviewed by members at the 27 June 2019 authority meeting. The authority’s external auditors detailed at the meeting that they expected to issue an unqualified audit opinion, but that they were still reviewing a recent court ruling with regard to pension discrimination.
Members of the authority agreed to authorise the chief executive and the director of finance and corporate services, in consultation with the chairman of the authority, to make any necessary adjustments to the financial statements and the letter of representation following the outcome of the government's challenge on the recent pension discrimination ruling. Consequently, having now actioned the appropriate adjustments to both documents, and having gained the necessary approval on behalf of the authority, the external auditors have now issued an unqualified audit opinion on the accounts for the year-end 2018/19.
The authority has also produced a summary statement of accounts to provide greater accessibility and transparency to the authority’s accounts. In addition to this the annual governance statement and the statement of accounts for each of the previous three financial years can also be found below:
