Scrap metal fire in Medway
Five fire engines and around 20 firefighters are still at the scene of a fire on the Medway City Estate in Strood. Crews worked hard to bring the incident under control by midday. It is likely the incident will be scaled down to four fire engines shortly, the command support unit and bulk water carried have already left the scene.
Residents no longer need to keep doors and windows closed.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service has been called to a fire at a scrap metal yard on the Medway City Estate in Strood. Residents living in the close area of the Medway City Estate are being encouraged to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution. Fire control has received a number of calls regarding the large black plume of smoke that can be seen above the fire. Crews arrived at the scene to find a well developed fire in the yard involving a metal shredder. Firefighters are using breathing apparatus and foam to suppress and tackle the blaze. No reported injuries at this stage of the firefighting. More to follow.
