LGV fire on M2 between Rochester and Walderslade
4pm Update: The fire on LGV is now out, crews have been working hard to target the hot spots in the hay bails using hose reel jets, to make sure the fire is fully out. The lorry and trailer have been completely destroyed by fire.
1pm Update: Kent Fire and Rescue Service is tackling a fire involving an LGV fire on the M2. Initial reports of explosions relate to the tyres of the LGV bursting from the heat and fire. The crews are using hose reel jets and main jets to tackle the fire that has engulfed the truck and trailer of the LGV. The trailer is believed to contain 26 tonnes of hay bails that are wrapped in plastic. Crews are making good progress in tackling the fire and are working hard to extinguish it. More to come.
12:00: Kent Fire and Rescue Service is at the scene of an LGV fire on the coast bound carriage way of the M2 between junction 2 for Rochester and junction 3 for Walderslade. Motorists are advised to avoid the area due to large black smoke on the motorway. Crews are using hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze. There are no reported injuries and the cause of the fire isn't known at this time.
