Incident
Chimney fire in St Margaret's at Cliffe
Incident details
Kent Firefighters have made a plea to owners of homes and businesses with chimneys to get them cleaned and serviced as soon as possible and before they use them this winter. It comes as Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a chimney fire at a property in Reach Road, St Margaret's at Cliffe. Crews arrived to find a fire in the flue and needed to use the height vehicle to deliver water down the chimney as the first was difficult to reach from the hearth. The fire left the chimney pot shattered from the heat of fire. It was removed for public safety using the height vehicle. The fire is believed to have been caused by a build-up of sap in the chimney.

Firefighters have also encouraged people to register for the KFRS Clean Sweep Alert service, which helps remind people when it's a good time of year to clean their chimneys. Sign-up today www.kent.fire-uk.org/cleansweepalert
