Incident
Out of control bonfire in Ashford
Incident details
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of an out of control bonfire near Chilmington Green in Ashford. Crews arrived to find the bonfire had spread from a small rubbish skip to a large amount of scaffolding. Two fire engines attended the scene and crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze.

Following the incident, firefighters are urging the public to take extra care when having a bonfire. Remember to build your bonfire well clear of buildings, garden sheds, fences, hedges and overhanging branches. Keep it to a manageable size and make sure it is evenly built so it collapses inwards as it burns.
