A fun packed programme of demonstrations and displays will be on offer at the Canterbury Fire Station open day on Saturday 3 August.
The free event, taking place between 10am and 4pm, will feature fun and factual activities for all the family.
Firefighters will be will freeing a volunteer ‘victim’ of a road crash in a mock car cutting demonstration. There will also be a “seatbelt sledge” to experience the force of an impact and how wearing a seat belt saves lives. The line rescue team will also be present to show their rope rescue techniques.
The potentially devastating consequences of pouring water onto a cooking oil fire will also be highlighted with the chip pan fire vehicle.
Presentations throughout the day will give visitors the opportunity to take in information on animal rescues and fire investigation.
Other attractions will also include the Fire-Fit team who will have an assault course where you can experience what it is like to be a fire fighter, a bouncy castle, a smoke alarm inflatable football game, and a ‘sponge a fire fighter’ stall. There will also be a barbecue serving food and drinks.
Partner agencies also attending include Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust, and Canterbury City Council.
Canterbury Crew Manager, Adrian Hawkins, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to come along and pick up some potentially life-saving tips in a fun and relaxed environment. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to the station and hope everyone enjoys what promises to be a fun event for all age groups.”
