The free two-day family event is being held in Central Park, Dartford on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July and Dartford’s Red Watch will be taking the opportunity to give people some practical advice and help.

Watch Manager, Vince Lewis, said: “The festival is a huge crowd puller and looks set to be a great weekend out for families. It’s the perfect time for us to get a range of vital safety tips across to people including; keeping safe on the roads, how to avoid fires in their home and when they’re out and about. We’ll be reminding people to dispose of their rubbish and cigarettes carefully – even a glass bottle can start a fire on a hot sunny day.

“Ultimately our job is about saving lives and reducing risks, so our aim is to leave festival goers with helpful advice that might prevent them from being involved in a fire or car crash.”

A safety display vehicle will provide visual and interactive demonstrations on Saturday and crews will give life saving tips including the dangers of not having a working smoke alarm and the importance of planning an escape route so that people know what to do in the event of a fire.

On Sunday, KFRS’s will be aiming to attract young drivers when a modified Vauxhall Astra ‘hot hatch’ which will be on display. Vince explains: “Young people are attracted to the car, so it gives us the chance to talk to them about the importance of wearing seat belts, not driving while under the influence of drink or drugs and the dangers of distractions; mobile phone use, peer pressure and driving when you’re too tired. Another important talking point is the affect that vehicle modifications can have on insurance, handling and legal condition of the vehicle.”

The festival runs from 12 noon until 7pm on Saturday, 19 and from 10.45am- until 6pm on Sunday 20 July. For more information on the festival line up http://www.dartford.gov.uk/by-category/leisure-and-culture2/festival
