Trainee firefighters in North Kent

Rochester

Emily Say

Emily Say, 27

Former change analyst

"I remember my mum asking me at age 15 what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said: “A firefighter”. Her reply was along the lines of “You don’t want to do that. Go to university and get a job in the City, you’ll love it.” So that’s exactly what I did and she was right (as she always is) because I enjoyed it. However, I knew my heart belonged somewhere else, somewhere where I come home from a day at work having made a difference. From fighting fires to fitting smoke alarms during a safe and well visit, I’m so excited to work for a renowned organisation where I get to help the people of Kent. Dream come true."

Luke Devine, 30

Former police officer

"I wanted to work in a job where I could be a part of more than just a team, but a family. I loved the idea of making a positive difference to the local community and get a chance to say that I've saved someone’s life. I’d been waiting for KFRS to start recruiting again as I’ve wanted to be a firefighter for as long as I can remember. I’d tailored and guided my career choices in previous jobs so when the time came to apply I would be in the best possible position to become a firefighter."
