*Please see the end of this press release for updated event information*

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is excited to announce that a number of fire stations will be throwing open their doors to the public this year for another set of fantastically fun Family Open Day events.

Last year, thirteen Open Days were held to welcome in local communities, with family-friendly activity zones, firefighter displays, the Byrnes show, and a brand new activity trail introduced as the main attractions. This year, visitors can expect even more from the events, with further improved family friendly activities being held at many of the fire stations around Kent.

Held on selected dates from June to August 2020, families and friends alike are invited to come along to the FREE Open Days anytime between 11am and 3pm to meet firefighters and staff before taking part in an exciting day full of educational activities, fire and road safety experiences.

The Open Days not only provide Kent residents with a fantastically fun and free day out, but also teach the public life-saving fire and road safety advice, through thrilling firefighter displays, the Byrnes family show, hands-on games and the activity trail. Kids can collect a stamp for each question completed on the activity trail as they make their way through the station, before handing in the trail card at the end of their visit to be entered into a prize draw**

Colin King, Area Manager for Customer Safety said:

“Our fire stations are so excited to open their doors to their communities for the fun-filled Family Open Day events this year. Following on from last year’s success, the Open Days will be improved even further with fun-filled activities to take part in. It’s also just a great opportunity for the public to meet and chat with our firefighters and other KFRS staff.”

"Each activity has a link to safety advice, and so we hope everyone will walk away from our Open Days not only reflecting on what a great day they had – but also with some vital safety tips they’ll stick by.”

*We have been closely monitoring the Government response to the Covid-19 situation, and in line with the guidance, have taken the decision to cancel all fire service events and community activity this summer. We understand this may be disappointing, but our main priority is the safety of our customers and staff, and we will continue to review the situation in line with advice and information from the government.

However, the service has been holding a number of Online Open Days.
