Stevie Hawkwood, 29
Former soldier, British Army
"I left the army due to wanting to be at home more with my family. The fire service appealed to me due to the exciting nature of the job, the fact that I would be making a difference within my community with the high chance of saving lives. All the parts that I would miss about the army I could still get, especially the bond shared with colleagues, as well as training within a disciplined service with likeminded professional people. I would never be the type of person to work in an office environment, I enjoy practical work and being challenged both mentally and physically, with the added sense of danger and excitement there is no better career for me."
