Join in the fun at Folkestone fire station's free family safety open day on Saturday 28 July 2018.
Local fire crews will be welcoming visitors between 11am and 4pm and providing some great tips to help the whole family stay safe this summer.
There will be free activities for all the family and rescue displays, involving the specialist line rescue team and a height vehicle. Visitors can take a look at some the specialist equipment firefighters use to attend a wide range of emergency incidents, including a fire fogging unit and a rescue boat.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s (KFRS) community safety team will be running a demonstration throughout the day showing the dangers of putting water on a cooking oil fire, and teaching people what to do to avoid a kitchen fire. People can pick up essential safety tips to keep them at home, on the road and around water, and find out free services are available to keep their vulnerable loved-ones safe and protected from the risk of fire, including ‘safe and well’ visits.
Folkestone on-call crew manager Jon Harper said: “We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to our station once again for a traditional-style open day with activities for all the family to enjoy. We hope that guests will take away some helpful safety advice too.”
Little ones will be able to climb aboard the fire engine, have a go at squirting water at mini wooden fire houses and enjoy other fun activities, including face painting and a sponge throwing stand.
Families can also learn some first aid, including what to do to avoid, and treat, scolds and burns, as well basic life-support skills. There will also be the opportunity to find out how to use a public access defibrillator (PAD), which are available for the public to use at every KFRS fire station.
A range of partner agencies will also be there, offering advice and information about the services they provide, including the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), the Kent Firefighting Museum and a Firefighters’ Charity fundraising stand.
Refreshments will be available from a catering stand and an ice-cream van.
Folkestone fire station is located at Park Farm Road, Folkestone, CT19 5EY.
