Becoming a firefighter is something I have aspired to since I was at school and had a meet and greet with our local station. I moved to Kent around the time the wholetime application process for course 181 started and for me, it all just clicked into place from there. I have thoroughly enjoyed our recruit course and I am looking forward to being able to make a difference in the community going forward as a part of my career with Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

After leaving school I was at a bit of a loose end, not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. I jumped around different jobs trying to find something that I enjoyed and could make a career out of, but never found anything I felt was worthwhile. Joining Kent Fire and Rescue Service has provided me with the opportunity to do a job where I can go home every day feeling proud of myself, having done something to help the community. I am looking forward to being challenged on a daily basis to use the skills I have learnt, both in training and from my previous work.

From an early age I have always wanted to be a firefighter. I enjoy helping people and Kent Fire and Rescue Service allows me to do this in my community. I look forward to working with likeminded professional firefighters, to help people when they are having the worst day of their life. Being a firefighter is a different challenge every day, and I look forward to facing different situations, and having to adopt to them.

I am extremely proud to be passing out from course 181. During these last 16 weeks I have learnt the skills and techniques required to fulfil a lifelong ambition to help and serve the people of Kent. During previous careers I found I was lacking purpose but with the fire service I have found a career where I can achieve my professional ambition, balance a great job with family life and help those in trouble, hopefully providing a point of support in their hour of need. I see this as the first step into a new career and I’m excited by the challenges it presents.
