For comparison, KMFRA’s previous gender pay gap staff profiles are captured in the graph and table below:
| Year | Number of female employees | % of female employees | Number of male employees | % of male employees | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2017 | 191 | 13.8% | 1192 | 86.2% | 1383 |
| 2018 | 221 | 15.4% | 1216 | 84.6% | 1437 |
| 2019 | 241 | 16.6% | 1211 | 83.4% | 1452 |
In 2020 the total staff headcount increased by 71 people. The number of women working in the organisation increased by 12, this represented just 16.9% of the increase in workforce.
Although the percentage increase was small, the number of women employed by KMFRA has continued to rise, there are 62 more women employed by KMFRA in 2020 (253) than in 2017 (191). The rate at which this increase has occurred has dropped from a 15.7% increase in 2018 to a 5.0% increase in 2020. Overall this is a downward trend when considered with the fact the service has increased the total employees over the same time frame by 54 in 2018, 15 in 2019 and 71 in 2020 (a total of 140 employees) at a rate of 3.8% in 2018 to a rate of 4.9% in 2020.
The Gender Pay Gap Report is retrospective and early reporting has meant that we are able to take steps to remedy concerns. As a result of this report, we are already applying a positive action approach across all male dominated roles in the organisation (not just that of a firefighter), reviewing our recruitment processes and training in an attempt to increase our recruitment rates of women.
