Kent Fire and Rescue Service attends a range of incidents including fires, road crashes, flooding, rescues from height, mud or confined spaces. It also supports other agencies including Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service and the Martime and Coastguard Agency on a regular basis.

UPDATED: Boat fire in Maidstone

1.10PM UPDATE 
 
The incident has now been reduced to three fire engines, plus the water safety unit, with crews remaining on scene to carry out salvage work.   
 
There were no reported casualties and the cause of the blaze is not yet known. 
 
The earlier advice to close windows and doors has been lifted. 
 
Officer-in-charge, Station Manager Lee Abel, said: “We would like to thank members of the public for their patience while we deal with the incident, and thank you to those who have kindly provided refreshments to the crew.”

11.30AM UPDATE 
 
Steady progress is being made at the scene of a commercial boat fire on the River Medway, in Maidstone town centre. 
 
At the height of the blaze, near Bishops Way, seven fire engines were in attendance, as well as the water safety team. 
 
Crews wearing breathing apparatus have been using hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. 
 
The cause is currently not known. No casualties have been reported. 
 
Advice is still in place for residents and businesses in the surrounding area to keep windows and doors closed a precaution, due to the amount of smoke caused from the fire. Drivers are also asked to use an alternative route while crews remain at the scene.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service remains at the scene of a commercial boat fire on the River Medway, in Maidstone town centre. 
 
Residents and businesses in the area of the incident are being advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke. Drivers are also asked to avoid the area while firefighters work at the scene.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is responding to a commercial boat alight on the River Medway, near Bishops Way in Maidstone.
