Retained firefighter pensions

New pension legislation, due to be in place towards the end of 2023, enables Kent Fire and Rescue Service to offer our former retained firefighters the possibility of a pension.

To be eligible for this pension, individuals must have served as retained firefighters for any duration between 7 April 2000, and 5 April 2006. The pension benefits will be calculated from the commencement of their retained employment, but it is necessary for them to have been employed within the specified time frame.

In 2014/15 a similar option was made available to retained firefighters, however it didn't cover the period that is now available.

We would like to hear from anyone who worked as retained firefighter for Kent Fire and Rescue Service during this period. This applies to colleagues currently still employed with us, but also the many colleagues who will have either left or retired from the service.

Please fill out the simple form on this page, we'll then be in touch.

If you know of anyone who this could apply to, please share this webpage, and encourage them to complete the form.
