Becoming a firefighter with Kent Fire and Rescue Service
Wholetime firefighters
who work on a flexible rostering duty system working days, nights, evenings, weekends and public holidays
Day-crewed firefighters
who work 24-hour shifts, 9am to 7pm on station, and 7pm to 9am ‘on call’ by pager from home
On-call firefighters
who carry a pager and respond to emergency incidents via the local fire station. On-call firefighters may have other jobs and are able to provide evening, daytime or weekend availability ‘on-call’ cover and can be available for at least 50 hours a week, a minimum of 30 hours which must be predetermined
