New Romney firefighters raised a massive £1,330 for the Firefighter’s Charity at their annual car wash event at Sainsbury’s in the town.

The fundraiser, held on 21 April, was well supported and the crews, who volunteered their own time, washed over 100 cars between them including the local Coastguard. Generous donations were also received from locals who were just walking to Sainsbury’s.

Buzz, Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s technical rescue dog, payed a special visit for a wash too, after a day of getting muddy while out training with his handler.

Watch Manager Jim Smart, the Firefighter’s Charity representative for New Romney, said: "Each year New Romney raises well over £1,000 from the car wash and this year didn’t disappoint. We are very grateful to Sainsbury’s for offering us the opportunity to use their car park to raise money for the Firefighter's Charity once again.

“I would also like to thank the public for their continued support and donations.”

New Romney fire station is currently recruiting for more on-call firefighters to join their team. For further information and to apply online, click here.
